Veterans’ “Home at Last!” A Matter of Pride for Armstrong Heating & Air

The Veterans’ support group known as “Home At Last” began in 2008, the vision of World War II veterans Bill Criswell and Bill Curdts, to honor veterans who return from serving our country with severe disabilities by building them mortgage-free, handicap-accessible homes. Since 2008, they have built and presented one home per year.

This year, with help from veteran-owned local business, Armstrong Heating & Air, they have not one but TWO new house recipient dedications!

Sgt. Seann Windfield, USMC Ret., was honored Saturday, June 24th with a Flag Raising at 10:00 AM and Dedication at 11:00 AM at the West Orange Baptist Church at Tubbs Street. On Saturday, July 1st, Capt. Elmer Rivera, USAF Ret., will be honored with a Flag Raising at 9:00 AM and Dedication at 10:00 AM at Speer Park in Oakland.

The mission of Home At Last is to build mortgage free, accessible homes for combat wounded disabled veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan war in appreciation for his/her service and sacrifice to our Country.

For battle-weary wounded soldiers, sailors, marines, or airmen, who have experienced the horrors of war first-hand, being Home at Last has its own special meaning. To those who wait – wives, mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers – the long period of worry and anxiety for the safety of their loved ones ends when they are Home at Last. To the young son or daughter –gleefully jumping into the arms of a father or mother screaming, “I love you! I’ve missed you! You really are Home at Last” has to be a welcome home a parent will long remember. Home at Last was chosen as the project’s name because it portrayed the vision for this special project.

The homes are made possible through the generous donations of every day citizens, as well as organizations like Armstrong Heating & Air who donate money, manpower, and expertise in the acquisition of land, as well as the construction of homes that meet the special needs of wounded veterans and their families.

Veteran-owned Armstrong Heating & Air is proud to help support the Home At Last vision of returning thanks to the dedicated veterans who served this country, and encourages local citizens, clubs, corporations, businesses, churches, civic groups and organizations. to join them.

Our servicemen and women often lay it all on the line in order to protect our country and our freedom, routinely going Above and Beyond. We can repay them in part by offering assistance and support when they return home.

Checks or money orders should be made payable to Home at Last Project, Inc. and mailed to: P.O. Box 884, Oakland, FL 34760. Home at Last Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and donations are tax deductible. All donations will be acknowledged with a receipt.
